Most recently, I played on "The Far North", and I was doing some serious large-scale mining in exhausted mines. But now I'm playing on "The Ancient Sun of Fire", and although it is still early-days, it looks there will be a plenty of iron to last a long time... but I haven't got a quartz mine yet! So I'd say there's a fair bit of variety in the maps - which is good.

(On "The Far North", I suppose one of the reasons I was short of iron was that I had a 'poor hamlet' start, and so the AI probably mined most of the neutral land before I got there.)

Yes, poor hamlet is a special case. First, you have no starting resources so you need to mine a fair amount just to get what you have for free when you start with headquarters. Second, you have to play defensively until you get enough soldiers to mount an attack, so you have to make do with limited amount of minable land until you can conquer more. Third, when you do conquer some land the AI has had plenty of time to mine it dry.

"Normal" games end much faster so usually there's not enough time for resources to run out.

What do you think of the amazon towers drafts? In Blender they look huge, in-game not that much… by how much should I make them larger?

i know it looks cool, but that spike on top of the high tower... what exactly would be its purpose? impaling hostile dragons? perhaps provide a perch for birds to poo on the heads of besieging enemies? when i think of it, it's a bit silly.

plus, as towers go, it's not very high.

for what is worth, i imagine the observation tower as having a smaller, narrower tower make of one single pole on top of it, to add height for a man looking out from the top of it. that's why i named it "observation tower". you don't have to follow my visualization, but in any case i think it should look more like a tower.

How about: Making enemies laugh themselves to death? face-wink.png Okay true; every milsite gets as many large spears as it can hold soldiers (this is just the kind of detail that feels like a necessity to me when modelling) but it might not have been the best idea to place one of them horizontally…

Good idea will do it like this face-smile.png

since we're talking about amazon graphics, i want to reming that their gold mines consume water because they use a sluice, like this one http://i.ebayimg.com/images/i/161101505261-0-1/s-l1000.jpg (except made of wood, of course). the graphic should reflect it. an animation of the worker pouring water over it would be cool.

stone mines, instead, are just holes in the ground.

Is it possible to have some pixels transparent at the bottom of the images? Some sort of smelting with the terrain.

Currently they look like they are not really placed on the terrain. Or maybe add some groove around the bottom?

Would be possible, but – bit late, I have already created 14 buildings in this style so far…
