I uploaded a 1v1v1 add-on map called "The Sea Kingdom" which I'd like to recommend for the tournament. It is not perfectly balanced, but close. Maybe we could have a battle royale on this map to try it out.

Sounds nice - Do you have time Wednesday or Thursday to try it out

Im proposing my all time Favorite Sea Fearing Map:

https://www.widelands.org/maps/27-islands-becoming-3/

27 islands becoming-3 is a Map, the Widelands Map i played most of the games in total and probably spend most time designing and refitting : )

2 new maps extra done with much work in detailling for our Sea Tournament:

https://www.widelands.org/maps/die-vier-wikinger/

https://www.widelands.org/maps/wikinger-die-fjorde-seefahrer-turnierkarte/

They should have all the necessary Details needed for a fun and challenging Tournament

-

To the maps for the Tournament, maybe we should also consider:

  • how are ressources set
  • what retreat offers the map for players (important when a stronger player pushes a weaker player back so he is still in the game / has a chance)
  • how realistic does the map look
  • natural design

most imporantly is to redo ressources

Well,

first criterion for the maps is that naval warfare is essential to win, or at least can make the game changing difference.
Therefore 27 islands becoming 3 might be a candidate, while the other 2 maps proposed by the-x are no candidate from my point of view.

I'll also be proposing maps I've made for the tournament next week. There are 5 maps, but only one can be used for a Battle Royale with more than two players.

There are currently 4 open PRs with high-priority bugfixes that should really be merged before we finalize the version to use for the first tournament round:

https://github.com/widelands/widelands/pulls?q=is%3Aopen+is%3Apr+label%3Aurgent

I'd appreciate it if someone could review some of those soonish, thanks face-smile.png

That's a very interesting new feature.

My map suggestions:

Ice Wars (for the "battle royale")

Forest Valley Tournament Version

Together we are strong

The Nile (blue vs red)

Calvisson (blue vs red or green vs yellow)

Nice suggestions. may I take your post as a subscription?

Maybe, but it depends on the maps. In my opinion there are some imbalances in maps which have been suggested by other people so far... Even if a map is "nearly" balanced, it can still be imbalanced

Understood, however I can't guarantee that every map that might be selected by me, will be perfectly balanced. We only have a few real seafaring maps. and I really want to make the feature to be a game changer as the main goals of the tournament is to test and promote this long wanted feature. So I see the rational behind your selection, while i still see that on som e of these maps you might have relatively early contact whithout any seafaring activity.
So if I will choose these maps I might modify them to make naval warfare essential. (eg. taking out the middle section in Ice Wars might result in a pretty good map for a battle royale.

Unfortunately I have to split up my time between reviewing bugfixes for the new feature, trying to implement basic AI handling of the feature, organising the tournament and my real life, which is currently not easy.
