Ok, thats is really a great discussion and the terrains will improve widelands a lot face-smile.png

Short conclusion:

  • Trees on forested mountains for wasteland will get a wider variance if one uses both terrains (with Strg)
  • "snow" (summer) will be turned from dead into impassable
  • "lava rocks" (wasteland, solidified lava) will be turned from dead into impassable
  • "dead" will be renamed to "unreachable"

Then we will have a skull as icon for unreachable terrains. I have no idea to display "unreachble" as an icon at the moment. Has anyone else an idea which is small enough to put in 18x18 pixel? But the skull should also be ok. We can change it later on if someone has a good idea.

be wary that old maps are not altered too much by the change from unreachable to impassable. For example, someone who wanted to make an impassable barrier could have created a thin strip of snow, which would suddenly become passable. I don't know if there is any instance of it in any map. probably not. I checked for lava rocks, and I can at least say that sun of fire, while using them for a barrier, has the barrier thick enough that it will remainimpassable

I am fine with the skull icon - explains why it's unreachable and not just impassable - you don't want to go near it.

I think this is an important point. We should check all maps shipped with Widelands that we do not alter them in an unexpected way. We must not forget to check the tutorials and campaigns, too. It might be that I used snow in tut03 to seperate the northern from the southern part.

We mustn't change snow and lava rocks in the forested mountain branch. It would be better to make this changes in a different branch to have more time to check the maps.

I think that's a good idea, to do the implementation changes first and change terrain type properties later.

I just had a look at Tutorial 3, the snow is plenty, so it would still block things.

I am sorry for late response.

I like the wiki page. Is it good to add there exact equations + explanation for terrain affinity?

Adding long tables with all the values will be hard, but possible. Exporting excel to csv format, then we can export scv to markdown table format is possible. Then you have tables in wiki, but not coloured.

About adding anythin to my page- it is ok. But I have to merge my two pages into one. In about 3 months time, one of them will be closed (no prolongation possible).

About tooltips and icons: I think that your ideas are very good.

Maybe we could only add some trees instead of the "X" in the tables of the wikipage? Using the trees that will grow well on this type of terrain?
