there is an idea floating around to have a garrison object that's independent of the militarysite object, so we can have soldiers defend a headquarters. Maybe something can be done when we tackle that.

like having a garrison that never leaves, ever? I like the idea. sometimes you are attacked by a weaker foe and you lose the building because all your stronger soldiers go out to fight recruits, leaving only a weak soldier inside. if you could set a number of soldiers to always remain in the building, that would be avoided.

First of all, to have soldiers defending the headquarters at all. So, the first step would be a design change with the only visible difference being that an extra tab will appear at the warehouse. Then we can talk options to keep soldiers inside. In any case, they will still keep coming out one by one to fight any soldier attacking the building.

"Make a sound in the east, then strike in the west" -- #6 of the Thirty-Six Strategies.

If you send a couple soldiers to attack an enemy building on the edge of a castle's range, 7 of 8 (or 11 of 12!) soldiers will leave the castle to attack the two soldiers you sent out. Then, you can send a bigger force to attack the castle that temporarily has only one soldier there.

So yeah, you definitely need the ability to have more than one soldier stay behind in the castle.
