Hi, everybody!

Some time ago, I wanted to play a little game online with my brother. However I'm behind a firewall and can't change it's settings. So my brother would have hosted the game. The problem there was that he's running windows and could not host as long as the issue was not fixed. Now that I'd like to try again, I noticed that I have lost my password for my nickname on the metaserver.

I'll try playing without my standard nick for now, but in the long run, it would be nice to be able to use it again. face-wink.png So is there a way to "reset" your account? I didn't find anything in the wiki and I guess, such a feature is not implemented, yet. If so: Any chance that a developer would be so kind as to reset the password for my nickname?

BTW: Is there something planed for the metaserver in the forseeable future (like registering nicks with email-adress, pw resetting / changing, etc.)?

Hi kraileth,

since the WiHackTwentyTenReloaded the metaserver uses the user names registered on the website. Direct registration was therefor disabled (but users can of course connect anonymously, if they do not want to register). In the long term, we plan to have high scores, leagues and match lists on the web site - parts of it is already implemented in a seperate branch, but still not ready for merging.

However, the password is setable via the website -> http://wl.widelands.org/ggz/changepw (you can reach it via "Edit Profile") face-smile.png

cheers Nasenbaer

Thanks, Nasenbaer!

PW resetting worked. And what you wrote about the future features sounds really nice! I'm looking forward to it.

You are welcome face-smile.png

I added a note to the WidelandsFaqTechnical page, so the wiki search will at least give some useful information if someone else searches for it.

Be aware of this bug though:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/widelands/+bug/675026

You need to use direct connect (via Ip address). We are not completely sure were the regression came from, but we'll fix it before build 16 rc1.

Actually I am quite sure, that it is the bugged ggz-base-libs Tino used face-confused.png

  • it worked before with current ggz-base-libs and nothing was changed in ggz code in trunk lately
  • I had the same problem when I tried the package he mentioned.

... I hope he can rebuild ggz from svn without much trouble and can tell us, that it works again than :).

Ok, thanks for bringing this issue up here. Actually our game didn't work yesterday, neither with build 5712 nor with 5700. They both work on my linux machine, but on the windows computer, there's a runtime error when connecting to the net. Also with 5712, the game closes without notification of any sort, if my brother starts a single player level. The map is loading, but as soon as it finishes loading, he's back in windows.

I asked him for the log entries, but he could not find any logs - and I must admit, that I forgot, where the logs are written under windows (or are the builds "release" versions with logging disabled by default? If so, is there a way to activate them via command line paramenter or something?). I'd of course like to help with this, if I can.

hmm that's ugly. However the problem with 5712 is known - I changed some stuff and forget to change it everywhere. In revision 5712 only games with 1 player are working. I fixed that problem in revision 5713.

For the connection problem: did this happen with directIP connection as well - so without metaserver connection?

Ahh and for general debugging - the log files are written to <userhome>/Virtual Folders/Roaming/Widelands or something like this. Have no Windows over here, so can not check it, sorry.

No, we didn't try that. Is there any good way to display the current IP for use with Widelands?

Alright, thanks. My windows vm just stopped working yesterday and I also don't feel like reinstalling win xp. But if still needed, I'll tell my brother where to look for it.

getting your ip is quite easy - there are several sites in the internet that show you your ip adress. (I have even written a short php skript some time back to do it here on Widelands.org ... no idea where it is now face-wink.png ) - best search for "what is my ip" or similiar on google.

The important thin is: if your brother is not directly connected to the internet, he has to set the port 7396 forwarded to his intern IP. How to find out the intern ip on windows... no idea face-confused.png ... hopefully google helps as well face-smile.png
