I think that widelands could benefit a lot from being on Steam. 1. Many new players will be able to find it 2. Easy Download (and Updates) 3. A proper multiplayer (with randoms) on steam servers

Hello Pikanter and welcome to the forum Steam has been discussed in the past, but it is unfortunately not possible for Widelands because Steam forbids uploading games licensed under the GPL: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/sdk/uploading/distributing_opensource

that's unfortunate. Hopefully it will be possible at some point in the future even it doesn't seem like it right now. Thank u for the quick response though.

It's up to Steam to change its rules basically. So long as Steam is being unreasonable and stuffy like that... well... it is all Steam's fault. P.S. Just remembered Wesnoth is on Steam and it's GPL too. A search also seems to suggest it is possible but tricky. So "maybe" <g> I was a little harsh above... personally Steam sounds like something I would not touch with a 10 foot pole so mea culpa. : )

Having read these posts, I agree with mxb2001, steam would not be a good idea. Having seen some good games go the way of the dodo on steam, i would hate to see Widelands suffer the same fate. The aussies are coming, ya ho! ya ho!
