I know, that makes sense from a story point of view. But: are those materials actually added to their economy? And even if they are: do those few materials actually make a difference?

Yes, they are added. (though, for technical reasons, not when the trader replaces the ware with a coin) See function wares_delivery() in scripting/mission_thread.lua.

And yes, 9 pieces of iron and 16 pieces of coal certainly make a difference. The 4 pieces of gold should help a little too, and while logs don't matter that much (except for Atlanteans...), 25 pieces of them should still matter.

Hello all,

I'm struggling in a different way in this campaign: I defeated red & yellow starts to bother me --> I built the temple but it remains in the "Worker missing" state. I have golden tabard in stock as mentioned in the objective but the initiate won't spawn.

I have several castles at the border but I can't fight back / attack yellow because the game does not allow it --> he's simply depleting my soldiers which is annoying. How did you manage to spawn the initiate? I'd really like to fulfill the objective and see if I can fight back and expand afterwards...

Thanks in advance for your advice & happy playing face-smile.png

Hi Remior and welcome to the forum!

I'm struggling in a different way in this campaign: I defeated red & yellow starts to bother me --> I built the temple but it remains in the "Worker missing" state. I have golden tabard in stock as mentioned in the objective but the initiate won't spawn.

The initiate needs a diamond too (in the same warehouse as the tabard). This is also in the same message and in the encyclopedia as well.

It seems luck plays a part here. AI behavior changes each run, so try restarting or helping yellow earlier to balance the fight.

I also found "Struggling for a new home again" too much of a struggle so I edited it to make it much easier. If you want to play the easy version download this zip file and read the readme inside on how to install it.

It has to be installed as a directory and not a *.wmf archived map file as it will not work as an archive file.

Note that this is for Widelands version 1.2.1 (you can check version in Linux CLI with command: widelands --version ) and may not work in older versions due to changes in the lua language in the new version.

Readme:

Widelands Atlantean Campaign

Struggling for a new home again - easy version

This is a reworked and edited version of Widelands Atlantean Campaign misison 2, to make it easier.

Installation:

Look for a directory that contains the campaign map files, they will be named atl01.wmf, atl02.wmf, dummy.wmf, emp01.wmf and so on. In Linux it is usually in:

/usr/share/games/widelands/data/campaigns/

In Windows, I am not sure as I don't use windows, but look for a data\campaigns directory with those wmf directories in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Widelands

Rename the existing atl02.wmf to something else like old-atl02.bak

Copy the directory in this archive, atl02.wmf, into that campaigns directory.

To Uninstall:

Do the reverse of the install steps: delete the modified atl02.wmf directory and rename the backed up original directory back to atl02.wmf

Suggestions for gameplay with this modified campaign scenario:

You start with 4 ships. Also all the coasts have fish so you don't need to build fish breeders yet.

Send the left-most ship to the above left direction and have it explore clockwise around the land.

Send the middle ship above right and have it explore anti-clockwise a short distance until it finds a port space and make it build a port - your main base will be here.

Send the right ship to the right and have it explore anti-clockwise to find a port space in a stoney mountain place and build a port there.

Send the lower right ship below right and have it explore anti-clockwise to find a port space on a nearby green island with trees. Set it to build a port there.

When your first port is 77% built, recall the left-most ship that is still exploring by clicking on it, then clicking the destination field in the pop-up dialog, and sending it to the first port space. It should arrive when the port is finished. Then cancel it's expedition to make it unload it's wares at the finished port.

At your first port, expand outwards with guard houses.

Build a sawmill. Turn it off at first as you have enough planks and need more logs, and turn it on later when you need more planks. You may need to set it to infinite manufacture to make it work if it stays idle when turned on.

Build a tool smithy. Set the desired amounts of all tools to zero to save iron and then set the milking tongs to 1 and the scythes to 2 so you can start a farm and a spider farm. After you have the tools for a spider farm and farm you can adjust the other tool amounts to what you like.

Build a quarry when you find a space near stones.

Expand to the left to find trees to build lumberjacks near.

Start to build your weaving mill, spider farm, and farm.

Expand above right until you find a wall of stones. Don't clear them yet as they are keeping the other tribes from attacking you.

Do not build a scout house yet as that will trigger the other tribes to fight when you are not ready. Instead, build up your economy with mines and food production. Start producing and stockpiling coal, iron, gold, and logs as you will need them to bribe the barbarians.

When you are beginning to build up your stores of coal, iron, gold, and logs, start building quarries to dig through the barrier of stones above right of your base.

Also build some strong defences there like a castle and towers.

When the wall of stones is nearly breached, build a 2 scout houses near the hole in it.

Upgrade one of the scout houses into a trader house. In the original mission you have to build a horse farm as the trader needs a horse, and fire the scout from the scout house so he can go into the trader house and become a trader, but to make it easier I have added a trader to your starting port (when you have built two ports, a script will add the trader to your first port, as well as trained soldiers) as it took me ages to work out how to make a trader and new players may not know.

Once the scout goes into the yellow barbarians land it will trigger the red roman tribe to start attacking the yellow barbarians and the barbarians will ask you for payment. As you will eventually have to fight them both, don't immediately pay the bribe. Turn off your trader and wait a while for the red roman tribe to start capturing some barbarian buildings. That will weaken both enemies. But don't wait too long or the barbarians will double the amount you have to pay them.

When the red romans are at the top of the wall of stones area, start sending the trader to pay the barbarians. He will go to the barbarian HQ and bring back some useless coins in exchange for your coal, iron, gold, and logs. The payment should make the yellow barbarians stronger and they will start fighting off the red romans. When you have paid enough the trade will stop and you will get a message asking you to defeat the red romans.

If you started paying too early the yellow tribe may be so strong they basically take over the red tribe so you cannot reach them because the yellow tribe is in your way. In that case just strengthen your borders with defence buildings and wait and eventually the yellow tribe will wipe out the reds.

When either you or the yellow tribe have wiped out the reds, you get a message asking you to build a temple. This needs a large building area. Build it near your base as you need to send it gold, diamonds, food etc. You also need to have gold tabbards and diamonds in your port or warehouse to produce the workers for the temple. They will go in and the temple will consume a lot of stuff. When the god has eaten enough it will train the priests and some volcanoes will erupt (after some time the lava subsides so you can rebuild).

After that you have to attack the yellow tribe and destroy its warehouses to win.
