Could someone please suggest a strategy for producing meat for the Atlanteans? It seems as though the Atlantean society requires a copious amount of meant, but has no way of producing it. They have hunters, but no gamekeepers which means that you quickly run out of animals to hunt. Any ideas or is this just broken?

They need fish (and a fishbreeder or how he is called).

So they don't need smoked meat?

Hi spiff82,

Atlanteans prefare to eat fish, as they are a "ocean tribe" - it is true that you can feed them with smoked meat, but that is actually just meant as boost for your economy at the beginning (there are many maps where you aren't directly at the water at the beginning). So if you already got smoked fish, your workers will prefere it anyways. face-smile.png

Hrmm, so why do the mines list smoked meat as well as smoked fish and bread?

I am assuming that you are implying that an absence of smoked meat will not impede my mining production. If so, are there any other buildings like this for any of the tribes? And if not, why isn't this explained/marked better?

It is explained in the productionsite program reference, included in recent SVN-builds and available at http://widelands.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/widelands/trunk/doc/productionsite_program_reference.xhtml#consume

See the file tribes/atlanteans/coalmine/conf. It has the line

consume=smoked_fish,smoked_meat:2 bread:2

So it will consume 2 wares from each group. For the group with smoked_fish, and smoked_meat, it can be [2 smoked_fish], [1 smoked_fish and 1 smoked_meat] or [2 smoked_meat]. It will always consume 2 bread.

It will try to consume smoked_fish before smoked_meat because smoked_fish is listed before smoked_meat in the file tribes/atlanteans/conf under [ware_types]. See also the generated documentation in xhtml-format. If you have a recent SVN-build you can generate it with --write_HTML=yes on the command line (best is to start the editor then, so it will load all tribes so you get the documentation for all tribes).
