So you really don't understand what Movoco.fr is? It's anti-youtube, so your solutions... no thanks

I am not french. I don't know why "movoco.fr" should be "anti-youtube". There is plenty of pages where you can add movies and they ARE NOT youtube. I don't like youtube too, but if I want to add something for more people, I would use something like Youtube.

And I have one question: why you are rejecting three solutions when you disagree with only one of them?

If Flash and Quicktime is what you call solutions, we don't have same definition of solutions, sorry for my misunderstood.

Oh and, i like the way you say "i dunno VLC, but i use it".

Oh and, i like the way you say "i dunno VLC, but i use it".

I don't know that there is ANY way of VLC for browsers. I've never heard of it. I am sorry for you...

I suggest you to specify what you need from any problem you have here, then complain. It is better for everyone. Not only for me or you. In this case: I understand that you want to share movies, but you don't want to use Flash, Java and Youtube. Why? (Flash, maybe I understand - lots of bugs there). And you reject ANY solution except yours.

Please, explain what is wrong with all possibilities that came here. I would like to know what you are thinking and who you are. I don't understand... Sorry face-confused.png

I assume Vassili want's to have only software that is "libre" or "free". So VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player whereas the other suggestions (like Quicktime or java) aren't free. To use VLC in your browser you have to install a plugin.

What i do not understand is why HTML5 should contain DRM. The specification of HTML 5 allows playing Videos which are restricted with DRM, but it does not contain DRM. The ability to play DRM restricted videos with HTML5 depends only on the browser, f.e. Firefox uses a special plugin from Adobe for that. The ability to restrict videos and audios with DRM depends also onto the video/audio format, not onto the video/audio player.

Only because VLC could play proprietary formats, it isn't evil. And a video/audio player which could play DRM restricted audio/video isn't evil also.

The problem here that many people don't know enough about computers to install the VLC plugin by themselves - maybe you could add a user guide to your site on how to play the video?

Sorry, I didn't have time to look at the page before - the VLC plugin does show a link to activate it (I already have it installed). It crashes my Firefox though - probably my system is just too busy right now, so I guess it's not getting enough system resources. I will try to have a look again some other time to see if I can give you any ideas on how to make it easier to use - please remind me if I forget.

Maybe I am not thinking about all possible issues, but for me "free" is "you don't have to pay for that". I can download Quicktime and Java and use them without paying. So that I name it as "free". What is strange, for me Windows is also free. I didn't pay anything to get legal license for it (I am finishing studies = I can download Windows and install for free with legal keys).

Second thing is "common". More people knows the program/plugin and use it - it is more common. In Poland most of users are using Windows. Most of them also have Adobe Flash Player and other related programs. That is "common". HTML5 is nowadays standard for most browsers. That is "common" too.

If you don't like that interpretations of the worlds, that is up to you. As a common user I just expect "standard and common way" of using any program/website. But If you are targetting to other type of user than "common"- use anything you think that is needed. Widelands is not targetting specific group of people (f.e. using only Gentoo), but targetting all users who wants to play strategic games.

But everything is up to you. This is your page and your thinking about the target people.
