Fraang made all the trees he showed himself. He was ready to give me the .blend, so I think if you contact him again he'll indeed help. He was active 1 year ago, so maybe he's easier to contact than most other modelers?

There is not a trace of tree models in the media repository! Or any plants for that matter. Not that I can see anyway.

Can confirm we don't have any .blend of .xcf files to work on for now.

Four times the current size?

I don't know at the moment - the easiest way to find out wold be to zoom in to maximum and take a screenshot of a tree to see how many pixels you come up with.
