I went through the tutorials even though they are not in my language, I used Google to translate. I also did the Barbarian campaign. But my questions are ones that are not explained in the tutorials, and I did not find a guide on the site that explains..

If you really played the tutorials most of your questions should be answered. E.g. how to expand your territory.

Regarding the language... I tried to translate the game files, but there seems to be a problem and as soon as the game is set to my language (even without my attempt to translate) the game simply crashes when you start playing.

I wonder why you keep your language that secret. If the game crashes with a specific language it would be helpful to know which language crashes the game.

I haven't tried playing against real AI yet.. In the meantime, I'm just trying to understand how the game works, and playing against the very weak AI. In the games I managed to finish, I won in about 6 hours (by game time)... That seems too much to me..

I think you have expectations about the game wich it can't fulfill. Playing a game in 6hrs game time is normal, although it depends on the map.

I also don't feel like I really understand how the map works in this game... I understood that it is triangles and that at the intersections between triangles you can place a flag.. but not much more than that.. It is still a mystery to me how to maximize the area.

Understanding how the map works internally is not really helpful for playing the game.

I think it would be the best if you upload a save game here in the forum face-smile.png You can do this with your next post, or with the second next one.

Hi arikari!

In general, you seem to already have a very good understanding of the basic mechanics of the game, so you only need more practice.

In addition to what kaputtnik wrote, you should also read the Tips and Tricks page of our wiki.

Note that I'm with the barbarians for now because they were said to be easier at first.

They may be more efficient in the early game for experienced players, but in my opinion their system of upgrades is confusing for new players. I think the Empire may be simpler for beginners.

If it's a large map with plenty of resources and relatively close mines, what's the logical time to reach army production?

If you have everything near your starting position, and you don't need to clear trees and rocks, then somewhere between 30 minutes and 1 hour should be enough to build the whole production chain and get it going.

To be able to make weapons and armour for higher level soldiers, you should set the economy target for the rookie equipment to 1 or maximum 2 items, and do the same with the input queue of the barracks, otherwise you waste a lot of iron and the smith's time on them.

The problem is that I have buildings stuck all over the territory and there's no LOG to complete it..

Yes, you need many woodcutters (and foresters) for your buildings. But first of all, you need to expand your territory a little to make room for them. You should not build foresters (and farms) too close to your headquarters.

Is the growth of trees similar to the growth of wheat?

No, they are different. Wheat grows the same on any arable terrain, while the growth of trees depends on the terrain and trees may die at any growth stage. On the other hand, trees can slowly spread on their own (especially on very good terrain), while wheat must be planted by a farmer.

Can you tell me about the road planning? I think it would be useful for me to learn this..

First of all, make your road network massively redundant. (don't be afraid to build many parallel roads with many interconnections) Roads and carriers are free after all. There are some players who try to build very clean road networks by only building roads in the east-west and northeast-southwest directions, in a grid of 2x2 rhombuses for small and medium buildings. They generally double the lengths to 4x4 where they want big buildings to not mess up the pattern.

You can also watch a few replays from kaputtnik's tournament to see how others do it.

I also don't feel like I really understand how the map works in this game... I understood that it is triangles and that at the intersections between triangles you can place a flag.. but not much more than that..

Well, it's really just that.
