Hi AI-Developers,

I just recognized in a game on a map with limited resources that the AI did not build up basic production chain.

AI played Empire and did build a farm and a bakery, but did not build a mill.

Is that intended?

Cheers Waldecker

No it is not intended however it might happen in narrow cases.
To analyse this further a savegame would be nice. Maybe we can improve something.

unfortunately I only have a very late savegame. Does a replay also help?

ok checked the replay. this map is really hard for the AI with empire and it will run into a marble deadlock quite easy.
There is a possibility to improve but I am not sure whether it would fix it

Yes, its a challenging map, not only for the AI, but with leaving out a key building in the supply chain its getting impossible. I think when giving a bit more priority to the economy instead of military in the early phase of a game might fix it.

Adding basic economy status to military weighing might indeed be a good idea

It is possible that the AI in the game was programmed to prioritize certain resources or strategies over others, and therefore did not choose to build a mill. In some cases, AIs may be designed to adapt to different situations and make decisions based on the resources and constraints they are facing.

The AI has no special strategy or something similar.
Waht it does is simply ti determine what building is needed most in the economy, based on a scoring system and including military buuldings.
then it checks a number of fields and scores them for being suited for the most needed buildings.
if expansion is needed Military buildin gs get a higher score, if the enemy is near as well.
Neededness for expansion is decided on available space and available mining fields and available build materials and some other factors.

That is (simplified of course) the concept of the AI.
