Ten years ago i used to play S2 a lot. Especially in split screen mode with my neighbor. So i found this game and after playing a short time i wanted to open a multiplayer game via Internet. However, it does not work. (or i should better say i have nooo clue how to manage it face-wink.png )

These are my following Problems:

1) When using my registered nickname on wl.widelands.org, it says that this name is allready registered and can not be used by a guest. How can i manage to not to be guest?

2) Name of server (Am i right, that it is just a name and i can use whatever name i like to)

3) open new game and join game does not work. Its just not possible to click on it.

4) In the wiki article about multiplayer game it says there might be problems with the firewall... could this be the reason why it doesn't work to open new game.

Thx for the help!

Hi,

welcome to the Widelands forums!

To use your nickname in the multiplayer online lobby: click on "Edit Profile" on the right side here, then change the ggz password at the bottom. After that you should be able to login into the online lobby.

About opening a multiplayer online game: Which build and which OS do you use? With build15 on Windows it is not possible to host a game. If you want to, you'll have to use one of the current development builds from http://widelands.8-schuss.de

If you are hosting a game and you are behind a router or firewall, you'll have to open some ports that other players will be able to join: http://wl.widelands.org/wiki/GameHelpMultiplayer/

Thx for your answer. It seems as i just started a multiplayer game. But i havent tried it with a real player yet. However i am looking forward to reconnect with my former neighbors for a little match during christmas holidays.

So i just setted up my gzz passwort and downloaded Widelands-bzr5765-nomusic-win32.exe.

Is it possible to play with this version with others who have build15?. Or do they also have to have bzr5765?

Do you know is there a automatic patch download thing? If not how can i make sure that my savings wont get lost, when installing the latest update!

Thx for your help againt face-wink.png

As a general rule of thumb, all players have to play with exactly the same version. The reason for this is that Widelands uses a parallel simulation approach: all clients simulate the entire game world in parallel, so that the amount of network traffic is greatly reduced. The downside is that if you have a different version, then your simulation might diverge from the other clients' simulation, i.e. you get a desync.
