I have looked through some of my older links, and it seems that I was at some point able to add nice links in forum posts. Though the last couple of times I've tried it hasn't really worked. I have tried with various combinations of brackets and parentheses [, ( but it doesn't seem to work. Placing the a text in brackets, then the url in parentheses seemed to work, but it would only link back to the forum thread.

Could someone please point me to somewhere (in the wiki) which describes how to add links?

maybe it's because of missing "http://" in front of your links to "example.com" - in general it's as you described - the link text in [ and the link to asociate in ( directly behind that.

Example: link to example.com - same without http://www.example.com

It did have http://, but I think the problem boils down to the URL earlier today. The thing is http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fil: Oseberg_ship_-_IMG_9140.jpg contains a second : which probably upsets the parser in some way. Removing the second : and everything behind makes the link work as properly.
