I would have to see a mock-up of the button as you envision it. IMHO, the floppy disk in the current graphic readily suggests the save game function.

As a general FYI, I have updated the GUI-Development branch on Launchpad with the latest revision (6432) of the trunk, in case anyone wants to "play in a sandbox". face-smile.png

Nice work! I however also prefer the old icons because they have less clear cut edges - that is, they feel more like pictures than pictograms to me. It fits better into the game imho.

I also agree that the Floppy is a perfect symbol for the save functionality. I wonder though how long this will remain true - people who are ten years younger than I am will likely only now a floppy from the museum.

Point well made. At least it is not a punch card. face-smile.png
C'mon! You DO know what a punch card is/was don't you? face-smile-big.png

EDIT: Did I ever mention that I went to school with Herman Hollerith?... (Well, I FEEL like it some times.) face-grin.png

Next try

I have updated the first post comparison.

EDIT:

1) As an alternative for the floppy disk we could use this symbol:

Alternative disk image for saving

I think the floppy disk is (at least at the moment) still well understood in the meaning of "save your data". The new symbol fraang proposed is bad to recognize because it has quite few contrast.

I do not like the new image because the icons are smaller and there is free space as if something was missing.
