I would have to see a mock-up of the button as you envision it. IMHO, the floppy disk in the current graphic readily suggests the save game function.
As a general FYI, I have updated the GUI-Development branch on Launchpad with the latest revision (6432) of the trunk, in case anyone wants to "play in a sandbox".
