I totally agree on the backgrounds with @Nordfriese.
atlanteans background in first mission (see li k in my previous postalready use a bit of watercolour looks imho. If possible the image of each mission should signify a bit of the storyline. therefore I always felt uncomfortable with using the same background for atlantean mission 2.
so looking forward to your paintings.

Not sure about Claus Lembeck.

I agree, it's the least favorite of my paintings so far, but for a different reason, I didn't like that leather jacket I made for him... haha. I wonder if I can remove the shield and the axe in gimp, and then you can reuse that character for something else in the future. I will redraw Claus this afternoon.

Regarding the backgrounds, for now I will reuse the same colors for each tribe, and we can change them in the future if that doesn't work. That's why I made the portraits without a bg, so we can decide later.

Claus updated, please provide feedback. I have a bit of trouble depicting someone who's both Danish and Frisian and Roman at the same time, haha. face-grin.png

Hi Eugenia,

your images look really great and i want to thank you very much for your work!

Thank you very much. Very nice pictures.

CC-BY 4.0 is fully GPL compatible according to both Creative Commons and the FSF.

Although the licenses might be be "fully compatible" i think the license CC-BY 4.0 must be mentioned somewhere in a manner that it is clear that Eugenia is the Artist who made the pictures. Similar to what we have for the music. If Eugenia is ok with mentioning her name and license in a text file somewhere in the code basis, and of course in the list of devlopers (here without license info).

Thank you!

No need for extra files for me, just put it under GPL if it's simpler. Just added on the list of the devs is enough for me, thx!

Ok, I uploaded the first draft of the final frisian campaign. Please have a look at the campaign: https://codeberg.org/eugenia/widelands-paintings/src/branch/main/frisian-campaign The *-512.xcf are higher res versions of the 128x256 portraits as used by the game, for future usage in case you want to go higher res in the future.

The loading-screen.jpg is just that, a loading screen. Please let me know if you want such loading screens on that style, otherwise to only focus on portraits.

Please provide feedback on the portrait backgrounds etc.

Thank you very much face-smile.png

The backgrounds all look good to me. Is there anything else you want to change or is this the final version? If so I'll make a branch to update the campaign folders soonish. Since this is a graphics-only change we can have this for release v1.3.

Could you please finalize the extra character as well? I realized that when or if I finally get around to touching up the excluded prequel scenario to fri03 (although this will not be anytime soon yet), this image will fit quite well for the character of Hans Ravenstrupp (an enemy Danish knight).

The load screen panorama looks very good in itself but unfortunately doesn't fit the Frisian style at all. The buildings look more like the Barbarians' buildings, except that it doesn't have the distinctive roof ridges all their buildings are shown with; the Frisian building style is defined by burnt-brick walls and reed-thatched roofs and the ground around the houses is paved with cobblestones.

Thank you! Please go ahead and use what's on my git for the 1.3, I'd love to show to my brother the next build :D I changed linthesilea's background a bit, because she was not very legible.

I will cut Hans Ravenstrupp and prepare it tonight. Would you like me to keep his shield and his axe?

Not a problem about the loading screen, I'll focus on the portraits for now, and we can see in the future if we can collaborate more closely for the landscapes.

PR is up: https://codeberg.org/wl/widelands/pulls/5245

Since you're OK with GPL I didn't add license information so it defaults to GPLv2+. If you would prefer the CC license after all it's no problem to change this now though.

How do you want to be credited in the developers list, real name or nickname or both?

Yes I think these fit to him well. Seeing that you use one background per tribe, he should have a new background though to represent the Danish empire, which in the storyline is separate from and not in any way related to the Roman empire to which Murilius and Iniucundus belong, even though they are represented with the same in-game tribe.
