The games I have spent a stupid numbers of hours of my life on, and kept/keep going back to, are: Oolite, 0AD and Widelands. When I look at what I have installed, most of it is open source. The ability to customise and tweak the game is clearly important to me. And I really do appreciate all the effort that volunteers provide in artwork, scenarios, testing, balancing, wiki-editing and coming up with ideas. I am often astounded at the talents people have, especially with artwork. For Widelands, for example, I am seriously impressed with the Add-Ons management; that was / is a lot of work that adds to the experience and enjoyment for all, with little return for those who developed it. Thank you to everyone who contributes, in whatever way. It is global, anonymous, community effort such as open source software that restores my faith in the future for humanity. As individuals, we are great.
