If you want you can choose / balance anything you like in "The River" map -> in my opinion since the map is 2 dimensional (or 3 or 4d)? the building space is not that important and counting the big, medium and small buildings they seem very equal : ) feel free to correct if you want change anything With elven forests you have a big problem with building spaces at start and i agree world it isnt balanced any it was used yet. Check the River again ; ) i played some excellent games with kaputtnik on the map which were real exciting (im my opinion better then last bastion)

Last Bastion is a bad map, for wood gnome its terrible. I'd appreciate better maps. Inselkrieger has a rating of below 5, which is rather poor Wanted to save the world, then I got widetracked

I wouldn't call it open. It's all islands with only a few passages between them.
Well, wood gnome with bad tree growth is at least a challenging combination.

I think it's acceptable, though not ideal. One thing is that it's another map where you don't need geologists. The other is I don't think it's well balanced: the North-Western side of the coal mountain has very few available building spots for mines, and the gold mountain isn't much better either. The stone and forest blocks (not again! IMO Elven Forests looks much better, as everything is scattered in small spots randomly.
