We have the IRC channel #widelands on Freenode as a meeting point for discussions and for organizing network games (also, there's a link in the link bar at the top of the page) which is great; unfortunately, one may not necessarily actually meet people there who currently have the time to play.

So I thought that maybe we could agree on some convention and semi-official times at which one should try to be online to get a good chance of catching a network game. These would be some weekly dates where people say that they have a high likelihood of being available; obviously it doesn't mean that everybody will be there every week. But I think it would help us play more (and test the game more ;)) and at the same time give a pointer to new players.

Since Widelands games tend to take quite a while I would of course suggest the weekend. I would suggest as candidate times (GMT): Saturdays 12:00 or 18:00 or Sundays 12:00 I picked those times because they're hopefully convenient to Europe-based players. I don't know how many Americans (in the continent sense) or Asians / Aussies are currently interested in Widelands.

What are your thoughts? Other suggestions? What time(s) would suit you best?

That's a good idea. I would prefer Saturday.

We had four players meet today, hooray! It was fun while it lasted: at some point we were hit by a desync bug which I'm now trying to figure out. Here's hoping that we can repeat this soon. After all, Widelands is the perfect game for while you're doing chores around the household face-wink.png (though that will probably be my downfall in future games, but oh well)

Thanks to syncstream dumping, the culprit has been found, and a one-line fix is available: https://code.launchpad.net/~nha/widelands/fixes
