I have started to work on the ware icons for the ration, snack and meal wares. Besides making it possible to render them later again I tried to make them resemble more the ingredients which they are made of. For example the ration is made of fish, meat or bread. So I added there no beer while the other wares have them included. Another thing is the general art style of the icons. While the relative high contrast is good for the visibility it is a bit in conflict with the lower contrast of the other rendered icons.

Here is a first version:

Any thoughts? face-smile.png

I think your new icons are way prettier, but the old ones are easier to understand - they have a better distinctiveness and level of abstraction IMHO. They are very distinct in the menu and ingame.

I think it's a good idea to have them look less like hamburgers, which I always associate with modern fast food.

There is one problem though with showing the ingredients like that: There will only be 1 snack ware in the future, which is bread fish, meat for the Empire and bread fish, meat beer for the Barbarians. Also, ingredients might in theory change for game balancing in the future.

The same icons are also used for the carriers if they carry such a ware. I think we shouldn't use different icons for warehouse and carriers.

I agree with that.

Also it is important to use simillar icons for Barbarians and Empire (Atleantans don't have rations?)

So you should consider using unified images for both tribes.

This will be a programmed fact that they are the same. We can't have different icons. The reason that they will be the same is so that Barbarians and Empire will be able to trade rations/snacks, once we have trading.

Hm, I wouldn't have identified the new ration icon as something to eat. Sorry, I don't want to displease you, but what should it represent? Is it a plate with something on it?

Personally I don't mind the hamburger style of the old icons. Maybe it's because, like SirVer said, they can be distinguished very well.

Awesome!

The bread icon should imho be adjusted to fit the colors of ration and snack face-smile.png

They look great face-smile.png

I think the bread in them has too much gloss though, maybe that can be toned down a bit / make the bread look a bit rougher?
