Hi all, I have a suggestion. Would it be possible to have translations of the interface and the main news of the website and the forum through Launchpad? I'm willing to contribute for Italian, as I'm currently doing with the game itself ![]() ![]() |

We used to have the ability to translate the earlier incarnations of this website. It was not a good idea: very few pages where actually translated and most of them where outdated pretty quickly. Adding this feature back would be a lot of work and I doubt that the results would be beneficial. Instead we will work hard on improving the help in the game so that the wiki becomes less important. ![]() ![]() |

If we do some translation of the website, it should be a showcase only like e.g. the news feed, and none of the user guides - keeping up with those would be impossible. Busy indexing nil values ![]() ![]() |

Oh...i have discovered this. I have asked this on a new topic. The problem is, maybe new users who speak only Spanish can not find a way to hear the news about the game and this reduces the amount of new people from other languages. The only solution I can think of is to have people who can take charge of maintaining translated and updated page. The last entry in the spanish forrum is from five month ago. Ok, just asking But, i can't understand one thing. I have played the tutorial 01, ofcourse, build-18, and it's in spanish (because po files are in spanish I suppose). But... the files in english in https://translations.launchpad.net/widelands are from the texts.lua located in "campaigns/tutorial01.wmf/scripting/" There are the same texts. These files must be translated? ![]() ![]() |

Yes, there are the strings that have to be translated. For more information, see https://wl.widelands.org/wiki/TranslatingWidelands/ and the pages that are linked there. There have been changes in Widelands between build 18 and the current trunk (where the templates are generated from). One of them is the renaming of the Barbarian campaigns and the first tutorial and the addition of three other tutorials. You should get a development build (see here) to see those strings in the game. The translations are merged to trunk from time to time, they then appear in the latest development build. That way, you can check whether the context (syntax etc.) fits. Google translate used to be very bad (the translated page was sometimes incomprehensible), but now it seems to do a good job (at least in translating to German). In general, google can translate most germanic and romance languages to english and back pretty well, but has problems with other languages... and let's not get started with older languages. Even professional translators have issues with the Sanguozhi ("Records of the Three Kingdoms", written sometimes between 280 AD and 297 AD), due to changes in chinese. ![]() ![]() |

I recommend not using Google translate when translating. Better use a good dictionary, like http://www.wordreference.com/ I also use Wikipedia a lot to research the topics that I'm translating. And once you're done, make sure it sounds like natural Spanish. Testing your translations in the game can help with that Busy indexing nil values ![]() ![]() |
