I am using TortoiseSVN with Vista and XP, it is working fine on both os. Have you studied http://wl.widelands.org/wiki/BuildingWidelandsUnderWindows/ ? Building the source code under windows with mingw is not trivial.

If you just want to play the game, just download my installer here: http://widelands.8-schuss.de/Widelands-svn3671-win32.exe

Hey Tino,

I am hoping to learn how to install all of this cool free software. Alas, my computing skills were learned long ago and are out of date. I do not know much of what is assumed about the reader for the instructions. I cannot seem to get GCC or any of the other packages loaded in Vista. I have Python loaded ok, but I am not sure how to build using Python. I have yet to find those instructions. At one time, I think someone had a Python build, but that might have been for an older version of Widelands. I want to rebuild my programming skills by playing with Widelands code. I was good at programming way back when, but I had decent manuals to consult. Most of the books and manuals I have found assume much about the reader...and the assumptions are false in my case. I do have fun playing with config files to create new buildings or workers and even variant worlds. Some things work, and some do not.

weell, off to play for a while!
