I compiled widelands from current git today, and played on a map (Lesser Ring) on which I had played a few times before.

I noticed that some building locations for small buildings and for mines no longer were there. Now I can only build flags, where previously I could build other stuff. I see this both in the editor and the game itself.

Did the restrictions on slope become stricter?

You can now no longer build near unreachable terrains like lava and snow. The rule had to be made a bit stricter in order to fix a bug without regressing another bug: https://github.com/widelands/widelands/pull/4033

I see. Will there be any more such major changes before the next release? I'll make a new version of my Lesser Ring map then.

Several more major changes to the engine and especially the Lua API are on the way, but nothing that will affect map design.
