This is not a balance topic. The current Widelands is pretty well balanced, though with a focus which we'd like to shift. My suggestion is to wait until we have an add-on system (which I intend to have before the next release); then everyone who wants to can write add-ons to modify the game in a more economy-focused way; and eventually some of those add-ons may turn out to be popular and balanced, and we can consider integrating them into the official game. This sandboxed approach is the safest way of trying out changes that not everyone may be happy about.

Sounds like a nice Idea, yes the system with Add-on makes a lot possible
