Hey there, i have quite some experience with Homepage design in HTML and CSS. although i'm still learning how to handle frames and stuff like that, i would be able to help out with any website design. cheers tarvo

Hey Tarrei, sorry for the late reply. Sure, we are interested. What do you plan to do? The most important stuff would be to get the site conforming and displaying correctly in all major browsers. A Design refresh would also be nice. This is a lot of work though. What would you need to get started? Cheers, !SirVer

well, basically i would start with giving the hompage a ceartain dimension. havin it sticking all over the screen doesnt look very nice. This would be a design point. for compatibility you'd have to simply try out in different browsers (and try out different things in the stylesheet). where would i get the source-dara from to edit the page? whom should i sent the finished thing to? see you tarvo

Mmmh. Fixing the width of the page... well, i do not know. You can check out the hompage templates from: https://launchpad.net/widelands-website , or via bzr: bzr get lp:widelands-website. You can then publish branches there or upload a sample page somewhere or just send it to me. Everything is fine. Just get started and we adapt along the way Cheers, !SirVer

If it is possible, you could make CSS based switching. I like it the way it is, so I can read the website at about 1600x800px and get lots of information at one view. I particularly don't like websites limiting the useful area to 800-1000px width. It is possible to have nice design and variable layout. Have a look at Heise Telepolis ( http://www.heise.de/tp ) to see what I'm talking about. The bad way would be something like the Heise website itself ( http://www.heise.de ) which limits the visible, useful area to about 900px. Just IMHO, though... CMake is evil.

Well, the most effective way to do it is by simply giving percentages for the design. this limits the space to a somewhat bearable amount, not making it too small or to big. i have a 26" screen and the homepage is defininitely to wide to really get the information presented. if the lines are too long it is usually harder to read.

I can really recommend you to install a window manager! Your distribution should have several. I use KWin and it works.
