I recently have a problem starting some of my saved games. After about a second of loading I get:
I play in German so it came up for me as:
I hope I translated correctly. I play build-18 on Windows XP and have played for at least a year in this configuration. The only thing that has "changed" when the problem started is that I started playing multi-player over LAN / Direct IP with my son. Any Ideas? Edited: 2016-01-28, 11:17

Hi Peter, I am sorry, but build-18 is too old now for us to do hunt down any bugs on - could you please try playing a current development release? Unless your system is 32 bit, we can't do 32-bit Windows builds at the moment Busy indexing nil values Top Quote |

@PeterPiper The new map may have been loaded from your son's computer when you started the multiplayer game. Both maps must be identical in order for the game to run. That's most likely how the map came inside your computer. Maps are not saved in the save games, so you are actually trying to play an old save game on a newer map. The four bytes that you mention are due to a change in the way that files are saved from build 18. It is not a bug. The saved game can only be continued if you still have the original map. If it was a Widelands map than it should still be on this server. Top Quote |

Hi Peter and welcome to the forums! Is your son using the exact same version of Widelands you are? I cannot think of the top of my head what problem this could be. I agree with Gun though that b18 is very old - we are trying to get b19 out of the door soon now, so it is unlikely we can still properly diagnose the issue. I suggest you switch to the dev version in the meantime.
This is not accurate, actually. A savegame contains the original map and all game state, so it is stand alone - the old map is never looked at again. So the new map should not be the problem. Top Quote |

Hello, GunChleoc: The home page (still) leads me to build 18 when I follow Official builds / Windows. I was therefore of the opinion that I was playing something more or less curremt. Being an end user I didn't want to get envolved with beta versions that might sill have bugs. Wouldn't it make sense to get a more actual version (debugged) on the home page? What Version do you suggest that is "Safe"? fk: It seems to me that the saved game with the problem has nothing to do Multiplayer game. The Map was on my computer prior to the multiplaying and is a different map than the shared game. Besides I can still open some of the saved games using the same map. I also made sure to install the same version on my sons computer because I was aware that we need the same version to play together. I save the game every 10 to 20 minutes to be able to go back to if things "go wrong". The first few saves work fine, then at a certain point the backups will not start. Do not bother. No solution there I think.... The problem is also that such old savegame is not loadable into current version so probably nobody will try to debug it... Top Quote |
