This thread is just for little thinks that let you make "oh, looks bad" here on the website. My personal intention is:

  • I've changed some css stuff months ago and did a mistake on space between two paragraphs -> I want more space between two paragraphs
  • I bought a new laptop and the font size here in the forum is very small on this display. I tried to change this in the browser by setting a minimum font size, but the changes took no effect. After investigating i found that the font size for the forum on widelands.org is set fixed to 14 pixel. There are some other values which are set fixed and i want to change this also.

If i am working on the css there are maybe other little things that make you think: "could be better". So it's up to you right now to make suggestions face-smile.png

One thing you could check for is if there are any layout tables used, or it it's all done by CSS. Basically, check out how the site looks when you take the CSS away - this is important for people with visual impairment who use screen readers.

Content tables are ok, e.g. when somebody uses markup to create a table.

There are no tables used for layout. Except for displaying formulars on some places or for the forum posts/maps face-smile.png

There is a branch available now.

Some screenshots:

Tables in Forum

Now:

Header 1 Header 2 Alignment right Alignment center
Value 1 Value 2 right centered
Value 3 Value 4 right centered
Value 5 Value 6 right centered

New:

Paragraphs and headers

I've took a screenshot from a latest post from king_of_nowhere:

paragraphs_new.jpg

The space between paragraphs could may be greater?

washy bold texts

Bold text now Bold text new

You may notice that i changed the color of headers a bit. I did this, because otherwise the shadowing of headers looks much more blurred.

In general: These screenshots are taken with my new laptop and the new font sizes depends on the browser settings. So firefox on my new laptop has a general font size of 16pixel. All font sizes are calculated to this base size of 16 pixel. F.e. the bold usernames in above screenshot are calculated to a size of 11.5167px (original size: 12px) and the font size for normal texts in forum posts are calculated to 14.4px (Original: 14px).

I think that the distance between paragraphs looks good now.

In the screenshot of the latest posts box, we somehow lost the dark shading - the text would be easier to read if we could get it back.

It does face-smile.png

Could you add a shadow to the non-highlighted (white) text as well?

ETA: What I find annoying on the forum is that when I post something, the thread is marked as unread. There should be an update done to the timestamp - of course, we also need to consider cross-posting here, so it might not be as easy to implement as it sounds.

The changes i've made to text shadow are now reverted, so all texts are shadowed like it is now. The font-sizes are also fine adjusted. I make some further tests and will update the branch if i am ready.

ETA: What I find annoying on the forum is that when I post something, the thread is marked as unread.

This topic is currently marked as "read" for me, i will see if it is marked as unread after writing this post.

Sorry i couldn't confirm this. After writing the post the topic is marked as read (like before). Could you please explain a bit more? Maybe a stupid question: You didn't go back in browsers history?
