I started playing a couple of weeks ago and noticed how some buildings got their resources and then didn't do anything with them. I think there were more buildings than the sawmill, but I'm not sure. What happens is that I build a sawmill and lumberjacks and all and the sawmill builds and then get provided with resources, but out comes nothing. I had been using the version from the Ubuntu repository (9.04) and today I uninstalled it and downloaded the precompiled tarball from the downloads page and tried again, but it still doesn't work. I was playing the second map of the second campaign. I'm running Ubuntu 9.04.

That's not a bug, but a feature face-smile.png - we call it "on demand production". You can read more about it in the release message of Build13: http://wl.widelands.org/news/2008/11/25/widelands-build-13-released/

So it basically starts producing wood when it's needed? Another quick question: what does it mean when I try to build a vineyard and it stops at 71% or 85%?

yes exactly it starts producing when the wares are needed. And to the other problem: As you already found out some wares were missing. face-smile.png

I just started playing widelands a few days ago. I used to play Settlers II quite a lot a long time ago and am now enjoying widelands. But my sawmills aren't working either. So a search helped me find this thread but this does not help me with my problem. I have a lot of trunks at my headquarters and 2 sawmills built and a 3rd almost completed. Both of my sawmills are full of trunks and despite having approximately 10 buildings currently waiting for wood my sawmills are very rarely working. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hi ialak,

try the new version Build14RC and set target quantity of planks to a higher value (left click a flag and than select the conomy settings)

Is there not a way to simply turn off 'on demand production?'

I have been away from Widelands for a year (studies and real life) and gave WL13 a shot over the weekend. I was also puzzled at the lack of wood being produced.

It seems to me that there is no problem in accumulating raw materials, but when it comes to processing them into needed resources (like wood) this will be far from the site it is needed ...
