Widelands needs cpu-power and I don't think, that a 1995 laptop is enough.

Is there a version of Widelands that can run on my 2004 laptop in fullscreen resolution with acceptable framerate? If so, I would really like to get it face-smile.png

Hi Sigra face-tongue.png ,

Widelands runs quite fine on a 1,4GHz Netbook in debug build, so it will surely (at least in release mode) do it on your Laptop if you do not run too much other cpu consuming programs (like KDE4, etc.) parallel face-tongue.png face-wink.png

By the way, something more serious:

I saw some internet sites that state that Widelands runs under Windows 98/2000 on 800MHz / 256 GB RAM Hardware. So if this is true, it should as well run on linux with same hardware and a light desktopenvironment like icewm or LXDE.

However it will definitely not run under DOS.

Cheers

I looked up Netbook on Wikipedia and they showed ASUS Eee PC as an example. They seem to have only up to 1024x600 resolution (= 0.6 megapixel). That is an entirely different thing than rendering on a full laptop display with 2.3 megapixel. Even with KDE3.5, which does not steal any noticeable amount of CPU in the background.

By the way, I have no plans to migrate to KDE4 until it has caught up with KDE3.5 to the point that it can do basic tasks like printing odd/even pages or getting correct results when evaluating simple mathematical expressions in krunner mini-commandline.

But these are the ones, who cause a major lag in an internetmatch. I don't want to play against them. face-tongue.png
