I stumbled upon Esperanto translation that it translates 'Widelands' and 'The Widelands Development Team'.

I figure, at least 'Widelands' should never be translated, but I'm not sure about the second. Anyway, are there any more words/phrases (like names) which should not be translated at all? Is there a wiki page maybe? Should there be? face-wink.png

Thanks...

I think these strings shouldn't be translatable at all.

$ grep -R "author=_The Widelands Development Team" ../

../tribes/barbarians/conf:author=_The Widelands Development Team

../tribes/empire/conf:author=_The Widelands Development Team

../worlds/blackland/conf:author=_The Widelands Development Team

../worlds/desert/conf:author=_The Widelands Development Team

../worlds/winterland/conf:author=_The Widelands Development Team

This is 5 times. Missing Atlantean tribe and Greenland world, where it is untranslateable.

Should this be made untranslateable for all Worlds and Tribes before Build17?

No, I agree that "Widelands" should be left untouched, but "The Widelands Development Team" is not a real name, but a description - it is just a way to tell the people, that we are a community and not one person or company can decide what to do :). And I am pretty sure almost all players that don't understand English will be happy to understand what it means - so e.g. in German "Das Widelands Entwicklungs Team" is absoultely right for me. face-smile.png

Ok in that case I will review the files after Build17 to make sure "The Widelands Development Team" is translateable everywhere (it isn't right now). And I'll see that in Esperanto, "Widelands" isn't translated anymore before Build17.

I'm thinking if it would be a good thing to have a check in build that "Widelands" should not be translated (read: Check every .po file, if the English word contains "Widelands", the translated word must also contain "Widelands").

Not for build 17! feature freeze is in place, do not touch translatable strings.

Of course not... that's why I already wrote in the first sentence "after Build17" face-smile.png
