That did the trick, Peter, thanks a lot. No alpha Channel but 24bit transparency. I changed it to an 256 color paletted image with no transparency.
Here it is - a lot more like expected!

Yes, I'm still using SDL as well, because my graphic chipset has run out of driver support for the 3D hardware acceleration with current xorg :( Nice work, btw! The desert and the beach look a lot more realistic, now :) You could of course try to use fraang's new palm tree...

Astuur, can you post the latest set? SirVer, can you merge these? Credit in commit comment to Astuur.

The original link had already been been updated.

Here is a .rar archive containing the modified desert terrain in the latest revision as shown in this thread.

With nearly a month delay I finally committed your work as r5924. Thanks for your work, Astuur and sorry for taking forever considering it :(.

No problem.
I was expecting additional requests for further modifications of those tiles,
but since there were none, we may try to distribute this new terrain and see
what a broader user base says.

I concur with Alexia's decision to include the new desert graphics. They are absolutely beautiful. Thank you, Astuur, for this fine work. And my thanks to Alexia and SirVer for their parts in getting these into the game.
