I haven't kept up to date with PPAs, though there used to be some. I develop and play on Linux, Ubuntu to be precise, but I always build the game myself from source. ![]() ![]() |

I see, cool! Im on Ubuntu too and loving it so far. Im fairly new though... been using it for about a month now, and i have compiled the source code so i can atleast play the game now. PPA's are not good anymore i guess. A user here named Timowi used to maintain one (or still does?) and the game is also found in the repositories of Ubuntu's software manager. But both versions available there are still somewhere on build 15.. As i said, i can play the game now. But i gotta go into the terminal, navigate to the folder i installed the game and then launch it from there. Been trying different ways to make shortcuts and the like, but nothing has worked for me so far.. So ixprefect, have you done like me? just compiled the source code and and launch it via the terminal? or have you done something else? ![]() ![]() |

To create a starter on the Ubuntu desktop or on the panel, just use the Create Starter command from your desktop and in the commandline there you should write the complete path, in my case it was /home/user/widelands/widelands. That worked for me. Well, should say, I use XFCE. With Gnome it should be the same, with other DEs I dont know

Like Venatrix said, simply adding an entry to the starter menu, or a launch item to the panel should work fine. For a start, try right-clicking on the panel, then selecting the Add launcher item option and browse to the widelands executable. If it doesn't work, report back on how it failed! I've never tried that myself. I use KDevelop to work on Widelands, and so the largest percentage of launchs is just from within KDevelop for me. Sometimes I also start a remote debugging session when I want to play in fullscreen. So in any case, I'm not a very typical user in that particular respect ![]() ![]() |

Hi, and thanks for the advices. The game now launches from the shortcut. I had installed the game from repositories, and the new version is installed as well (compiled from code).. By changing the launch command path in the shortcut, it now starts the newest version of the game. I tried this earlier, by making a new shortcut from the main menu list (?) but then the shortcut wouldnt show up But anyway, im gonna make a fresh install of Natty when it gets available, shouldnt be more than a couple of hours. Will try some more in that. For now, modifying the excisting shortcut to widelands worked. Thanks ![]() ![]() |
