A little suggestion:

It would be very nice if military buildings which are in range to attack, or in possible range of attacks from enemies to display some sort of sign to show this.

Just as in Settlers II where there would either be a White sign (safe), Half-cross (Enemies nearby) and Cross (In range to attack enemy). This would make it a lot easier to manage military.

Keep up the amazing work! Love it.

Hmm it sounds interesting, although Settlers and Widelands is not fully compareable in case of fighting - at Settlers you were only able to attack after the borders of both enemies touched each others - that's not the case at widelands - on the other side widelands has the shadow and the fog of war and only if you can see a building completely you can attack or no what's happening there - so in other words: If you as player can see the enemy it's quite obvious that there are enemy soldiers in range, if you can't see an enemy - how should your soldiers know ? face-wink.png

But okay we should think about it face-smile.png

It was actually mostly in relation to non-border military buildings, so you at a quick glance can see which will be possible to add help in the case of an attack. Which will come to your defencee if attacked, and which will help if you attack. True you can see the number of soldiers you can attack with, but seeingwhere they come from would be nice as that would help you manage 'non-war-active' military buildings, such as reducing their number of soldiers to let the excess soldiers join the battlefront if you are short of soldiers.

And if you can see your enemy's border, but no enemy military building is in range for you to attack, they might still be in range, and knowing which buildings can be attacked would help.

Just to contribute a bit: The different flags in Settlers were not really about which buildings you could attack. Settlers had a soldier distribution system where you could adjust how many soldiers you wanted inside the militrary buildings in the 3 zones:

1) right at the border to an enemy (cross)

2) near the border, but not in the fist line (one stripe)

3) the rest. (blank)

That is what the flags were about. In Widelands each military building can be configured differently.

Apart from that, I like your idea. It would be nice to see immediately what buildings you can attack - or -even more desirable - which ones of yours are attackable.

Being no programmer, I apologize for all my suggestions that imply undue workload and for other misjudgements due to lack of expertise or relevant skills.
I am on Win32, have no means to compile, and rely on prefabricated distributions (Thanks to Tino).
