Thanks for that suggestion. I found out how to start Widelands from the prompt and got the error output file. I have not sent it in because there really was nothing in it that looked like code about the error, just a few lines that said the game was shutting down. It does not actually crash, I shut it down because the flashing colours is too annoying. I have noticed that the problem becomes less the longer I play a game. I usually play for 20 to 40 hours (not in one sitting) and then I have either captured the whole map or decided I am not going to gain any more ground. In the first 10 hours the problem can come up after one minute or maybe after 10 minutes. In the last 10 hours the problem may only come up once in a four hour playing session. I can't get a good screen shot of the problem but it is like looking at those flashing LEDs with all the flags changing colour constantly. I should also report that I am playing on Windows 7 using Parralels on an Apple Mac Mini. The system is quite old - about 2010 I think, with no updates since 2012. I do realize your comment about the video driver/card could really be the issue. It is a virtual video card from Parralels.

Hi Lawrence, If you are on a mac, you could simply use our mac builds probably for native Hardware support. Have a look here https://www.widelands.org/wiki/Download/ to see how to get them. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask them

Under Windows, the log output is stored in a text file called stdout.txt that is stored in the same location as your savegames. See https://www.widelands.org/wiki/Technical%20Faq/#where-are-my-maps-and-savegames-stored

I am looking at upgrading my apple and when I do I certainly will be installing the native build. Thanks for the tip :-).
