Who else thinks that it would be better to halve the gold costs of every barbarian and imperial trainingssite? For example the imperial ones are too expensive anyway.

can be done too. though i don't think that will have a huge impact on balance, as those buildings are generally only built once.

Ok these are the Level 10 numbers with a barbarian evade increase of 16 (+1 to the current value)

vs Barbarians Empire Atlanteans Frisians
Barbarians 54,29 55,79 54,06 57,01
Empire 51,6 53,55 49,01 53,68
Atlanteans 53,52 56,99 53,62 51,91
Frisians 54,34 54,81 55,67 59,28

and these are the numbers for increase of 17.

Barbarians Empire Atlanteans Frisians
Barbarians 53,8 58,1 56,64 59,04
Empire 48,41 53,31 49,35 54,17
Atlanteans 48,93 57,9 53,84 52,66
Frisians 49,95 54,82 56,68 58,99

so +1 is good +2 isn't.

I don't have sufficient experience playing barbarians to make any useful suggestions. For the Empire, I think it might be enough to up the farms by ~10% and the piggeries by ~20%.

Incidentally, I said I don't want to nerf atlanteans; but changing a bit their starting resources would not really be a nerf.

So far, one of the latest discovered advantages of atlanteans is that they can get a full trained soldier (minus defence, but those promotions are weak enough that you can skip them) in 30 minutes. this happens because they already have all the iron and coal they need from the start, and they only need a gold mine to extract two pieces of gold.

I think removing 3 coals from atlantean starting inventory would be enough to force them to make a coal mine, slowing down a bit that strategy. To keep things fair, we could give them a bit more bread and fish, enough to extract that coal once the mine is done.

or maybe we could remove 3 iron and swap them with 3 iron ore, essentially getting the same effect, and again compensating with something else.

Why can one skip them?

I'm not so sure about that. If you play a match without a lot of fish/game resources and without a lot of possibilities of surface mining, Atlanteans are much stronger than every other tribe. That's why it wouldn't hurt to improve piggeries a lot. And I think that the 10% farm speed don't do a lot...

for kicking the early game low-promotion soldiers you need attack and evade. everything else is gravy.

The reason why I thought buffing farm productivity might be good, is to reduce the amount of space they need.

Farms are territorial Ressource, that means if you have much space you can build farms --> The more space you have the more food you can produce. To make bigger maps better playable we should make farms more like frisean farms, like they need more space to produce well. The problem is NonServiam, if we do like you write you have a lot of building space which is pointless or useless for the game while you have your roads overloaded (and to much wares).

Did you miss King of Nowhere's original post in this thread, where he correctly explains that Atlanteans are the strongest tribe because they need so much less building space?

Ofc not, but this has nothing to do with that you need space to build farms and as i explained in the post before (did you read it or just want to give contra)
