G'Day Folks,

I've just uploaded a couple of maps! To see them, select: The Game > Maps in the website menus.

  • slash 1 (east / west)
  • islands 6 (east / west)
  • galaxy 6 (se / nw)
  • forrest 3.2 (se / nw)

Each map has 2 versions, so you can choose either starting position.

As you'll see if you check out the views of the maps, they are basically races - that is you are trying to get to the gold before the opposition.

Islands 6 is a maze, in addition to racing to the centre, there are a number of places where building a castle (or similar) can block the opposition.

I'd love to hear some feedback!

Hopefully, you'll enjoy playing the maps!!

I am not sure why there are two versions of each. When starting a map you can always choose which start position you use, or is the second version using 2 different start positions?

I have not tried any of these yet, to busy with other stuff. face-sad.png

Yes, the 2 versions are the same map, just with the starting positions reversed. I didn't know there was any way to choose your starting position. face-sad.png

Is there a way to delete the duplicate maps?

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the maps face-smile.png

I should be able to delete them via the admin interface, just tell me which version of each you prefer.

You could do that when configuring the game, the screen where you set the win condition. In that screen all players are in a list. Click on the left checkbox for a player to choose your starting position. Default is always the first (= top) player.

Thanks.

Please keep the first version of each map:

  • slash 1 west
  • islands 6 west
  • galaxy 6 se
  • forrest 3.2 se

Is it possible to set the (default) winning condition in the map editor?

For whatever it is worth face-smile.png I'd recommend "Autocrat" as the "Type of Game".

If anyone is wondering; these maps are (very loosely) based on some Setters 2 maps that I created about 20 years ago. face-smile.png

They are only loosely based since I haven't "seen" my old maps for almost 20 years. I think I uploaded them to some website, but I doubt they still "exist" anywhere (except in my backups).

  • galaxy 6
    • galaxy2.swd &/or spiralus.swd
  • forrest 3.2
    • yendor (aka star wars' forrest moon - I no longer have this S'2 map)
  • islands 6
    • swamp1_.swd / swamp2_swd

No, that's up to the player to choose.

BTW you can also load Settlers II maps with Widelands - that's how Widelands got started, with somebody being curious about the map format face-smile.png

Wow. None of my Settler's maps looked anything like my memories of them. face-wink.png

I will upload a few, for your entertainment.

OK, I've now uploaded 3 of my old settlers 2 maps face-smile.png

My thanks to GunChleoc for mentioning it was possible.

  • Broken Hill
  • McGregors Swamp
  • Krakatoa2

The first two have up to 4 players and the last has up to 7.

I don't recommend playing them with that many players (though I guess I did that 20 years ago).
