Hello together, I just downloaded the last windows-build and its not working. I have windows 7 professional, 64 bit. What happens is that a window pops up named "SDL_app" which immediately closes and nothing else happens.

Hope you can help me, Oobertus

Hi Oobertus,

thanks for reporting. Let's see if we can track this down.

It hints at a graphics problem. Could you please check which video card you have?

Instructions are here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/video-cards-faq#1TC=windows-7

It would also help to get some log output - instructions on how to get it: https://wl.widelands.org/wiki/How%20to%20Write%20a%20Good%20Bug%20Report/#6-reporting-a-crash

Hi Oobertus and welcome to our forums face-smile.png

Unfortunally we have some problems with intel related graphics. See this bug report

I add the information you gave to this bug report. If you have a launchpad account you can subscribe to it.

Thanks .... even it is not satisfying...

Some more suggestions:

  • which version did you download exactly? The version should also be logged in the first line of the console and/or logfile. Is this just a copy&paste error?
  • Have you checked if there are updates for your chipset/graphicscard under (optional) Windows updates?
  • Is this your first widelands installation on this system? Try to delete the folder C:\Users\XXX\.widelands. Or rename it, because this deletes config, savegames, screenshots and campaign progress...

What is irritating me is the "No version file found" line. I can't find it anywhere in our source code.

ETA: Found it, in Build 18, src/io/filesystem/layered_filesystem.cc.

Could you please try one of our unpffocial development builds? Our graphics system has changed a lot since Build 18, and if we get lucky, it might solve your problem.

Also, if you have a laptop, you system might have 2 video cards installed - you could try using the other video card, if that is the case. The procedure depends on your computer, could be something like this: https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/documents/ht078706

Hi,

Changelog says: Build 18-rc1 (stdout.txt contains no Versionnumber)

All Updates installed, same result

.widelands-folder is empty, its the first installation, no games played yet (not even seen the menu)

Oobertus

EDIT: IT WORKS NOW

Thanks for your help, the idea with the second video card was the one I needed.

Greetings, Oobertus

Glad it worked face-smile.png

I have been pulling my hair out over video cards a lot myself.
