We are currently working on an improved design for the message window. When we're done, players will be able to filter for only certain types of message (e.g. Seafaring, Geologists) by pressing a button.

While we're at it, we would like to unclutter stuff. How does everybody use the Archive Messages function? I always just hit the Archive button for the message I have currently active. Does anybody use the selection checkboxes/invert selection button etc? If not, we would like to get rid of these - less buttons is good face-smile.png

So, if you are using the checkbox method, do speak up. Otherwise, we will delete them.

You can read more about this in the related bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/widelands/+bug/987510

If I have been sloppy in keeping up with messages, most of which I find unimportant, the I often use the selection checkboxes to delete pages of messages. I would not mind losing this function if I could filter the messages though, that seeme a lot more useful.

Speaking of messages the messages on mouseover of some buildings I find confusing at times. A message like "Work skipped as not: econpmy needs planks" while gramtically rubbish, I understand to mean the worker decided not to work today as he thinks there is no demand for his product, presumably his store is full. But what does "Work skipped as not: economy needs iron ore or not: economy needs bread" mean?

Thanks for your feedback!

  1. I decided to keep the checkboxes for now. They might become a lot more useful with the new filtering options.

  2. This is finally fixed in the current nightlies and will be included in the next release.
